In my twenty-fiVe years of<br \/>\nservice on the Sherman Zoning Board of Appeals, I<br \/>\ncannot recall seeing either of them at any of our<br \/>\nmeetings, except to show support for one applicant\u2019s<br \/>\nrequest.<\/p>\n<p>A more serious lack of both attendance and support<br \/>\nwas clearly demonstrated towards the prior Housing<br \/>\nCommission, despite this commission\u2019s frequent<br \/>\ninvitations to come to the meetings and provide input<br \/>\nas their proposal was taking shape. To make things<br \/>\neven worse, the often- and still-repeated<br \/>\ncharacterization of the new Housing Commission as<br \/>\n\u201crecently reinvigorated\u201d remains as insulting,<br \/>\noffensiv and intentionally disrespectful of the<br \/>\nformercihmnissioners as the first time I read it.<\/p>\n<p>Evidently, volunteering these days seems to either<br \/>\ngo unappreciated at best, or ridiculed at worst.<\/p>\n<p>This can change on Nov. &#8216;3rd if Don Lowe and<br \/>\nAshleigh Blake are elected. Both of them will<br \/>\ncontinue to be exactly as they have always been<br \/>\ngenuinely respectful of everyone, and sincerely<br \/>\nappreciative of the efforts of those who so generously<br \/>\ngive of themselves. I am convinced that their election<br \/>\nwill result in a rejuvenation of the volunteerism which<br \/>\nhas been in such nOticeable decline in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Don and Ashleigh will not take direct<br \/>\norders from anyone or any party, relying instead on<br \/>\ntheir own conscience and good judgment to do what\u2019s<br \/>\nright for Sherman. They may even disagree with one<br \/>\nanother from time to time, but that\u2019s ok. An honest<br \/>\nexchange of ideas without vilification always makes<br \/>\nfor a better outcome, and that\u2019s how government (at<br \/>\nall levels) should work. &#8216;I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve<br \/>\nwitnessed this often over the last four years.<\/p>\n<p>What town wouldn\u2019t be envious of having the<br \/>\nopportunity to elect these two worthy candidates?
