Samantha’s Statement

Sherman’s Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) needs members with deep relevant experience, proven dedication, and a commitment to fairness. I am Samantha Addonizio-Butts, and I am running for P&Z to ensure our town’s regulations consistently meet the needs of all residents and are applied with the utmost care.

12 years on Zoning Board of Appeals
For over 12 years, I have served Sherman on the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA)—as an alternate, a full member, and even as its Chairman from 2017-2019. This extensive tenure has equipped me with a profound understanding of the balance between local regulations and citizens’ needs. A perspective that would extend deeply while serving on P&Z.

Professional Rigor and Relevance
To effectively contribute to P&Z, a steep investment of time is needed to master our town’s regulations, stay current on state case law, and meticulously review every application. This is where my professional life intersects with my public service. As an attorney and compliance officer with over 30 years of experience, I am adept at interpreting complex rules, ensuring compliance, and finding practical ways to achieve results within the legal framework.

P&Z Requires Rigor to Avoid Lawsuits
Commitment to detail is crucial for protecting Sherman. Every P&Z commissioner must exercise great care to avoid errors that leave the town vulnerable to costly lawsuits..We cannot rely on luck as a strategy to avoid a lawsuit. Missing things have provided opportunities for disgruntled neighbors to bring lawsuits against the town. By applying the regulations precisely and consistently,  I would bring a high level of diligence to P&Z, minimize the town’s liability, and balance the needs of the town with the individual.

20+ Years Sherman Family Serving Our Country
My family and I have been proud Sherman residents for over 20 years. I’m married to Bill Butts, a Navy Veteran and acting commander of the Sherman Veterans Association.  Right here on our little berry farm on Route 55, we raised our sons, Walker and Tucker, both former Troop 48 Scouts and current Army ROTC college participants—Go Army!.

I have the experience, professional rigor, and dedication to serve effectively on the Planning & Zoning Commission.

Vote for What’s Needed on P&Z
I look forward to continuing to serve the Town of Sherman.  If you think I would make a good addition to Sherman Planning & Zoning, would you please consider letting your family and neighbors know about my candidacy, sharing this note or even writing a letter to the editor of the Town Tribune or Sherman Sentinel supporting my candidacy?  Please vote for me on Nov 4th.Thank you for your consideration.
